Neer Garh Waterfall Hike
A short forest walk to the upper pools of Neer Garh, on foot, timed early before the day gets busy.
Overview
Most people stop at the first, busy pool by the road and call it a day. We don't. Our version starts early and keeps walking, on foot, past the lower area towards the quieter upper sections, where the trail turns properly forested and it feels like a walk rather than a roadside photo stop. It is an easy way to get water, forest and a little movement into your morning without giving up the rest of the day. Neer Garh is a popular waterfall, not a secret one, so the honest advantage here is the timing and a guide who takes you past the crowds, not a claim that you'll have it to yourselves.

- Early, before the crowds
- Forest & waterfall

Your morning, stage by stage
The hike, stage by stage, in the same shape as our package itineraries: what you do, in order, with a line on each part and what is and isn't included.
- ~ 7:30 AM · start Included
Meet and set off early
We meet in Rishikesh early and set off on foot, ahead of the crowds that build later in the day. Your host confirms the meeting point the evening before.
- The access Included
Reach the falls and start walking
We reach the waterfall access, sort out the small entry, and begin walking into the forest.
- The climb Included
Past the lower pools
We pass the first, busy lower pools and keep going, up the stepped forest trail. The rock is wet and can be slippery underfoot.
- The reward Included
The upper pools
Time at the quieter upper pools to rest, take photographs, and dip only where the water and your guide say it is safe.
The stages are in order. We haven't fixed exact clock times to each: the day is built around you, so your host confirms the start time and the plan with you. BMR is timing the full route on the ground.
Your route
An early, on-foot walk from Rishikesh to the waterfall, past the busy lower pools and up the forest trail to the quieter upper pools, then back the same way. Distances and times are approximate and confirmed on the ground; we don't publish precise figures we haven't checked.

Good to know
Before you go
Wet rock is slippery
The limestone and steps are wet and slick in places. Grippy shoes matter more than fitness here. Take the descent slowly.
It gets busy later
Neer Garh is popular. We start early to stay ahead of the crowds, but we can't promise a quiet waterfall, and we won't pretend to.
Limited facilities up top
There are basic facilities near the lower access only. Carry water and anything you need for the walk.
Swimming is conditional
Dipping in the pools depends on the water on the day and your guide's call. Safety comes first.
The weather
In heavy rain the rock and trail become unsafe, and we may pause or reroute the walk.

Walked by BMR, with a local guide
This is not a route we read about. Someone from BMR has hiked the whole way, up and back, at a normal traveller’s pace, and a local guide who grew up in these hills walks every step of it with you: leading the climb in the dark, knowing the forest turns and the villages you pass, and setting a pace that suits your group. Everything on this page, the times, the ground, the distance, comes from doing it, not from a brochure.
A local guide, the whole way
Your guide is from here, sets an early start to beat the crowds, and knows the trail past the first busy pool to the quieter upper sections.
On foot, honestly
No vehicle, no roadside shortcut. You walk it, which is the point, and the guiding and the entry are handled for you.
The honest bits, first
How wet and slippery the rock is, that it gets busy later, how much walking it really is. Before you book, not after.
One host, start to finish
The same BMR host stays with your booking from your first message to the end of the walk.
Common questions
Is there a car included?
No. This one is on foot, no vehicle. We meet in Rishikesh and walk to the falls and back.
How hard is it?
Easy to moderate. It is a stepped forest climb of about 1.5 to 2 hours of walking. The main challenge is wet, slippery rock, not the distance.
Will it be crowded?
Neer Garh is popular. We start early to get ahead of the crowds, but it is not a secret spot and we can't promise you'll have it to yourselves.
Can I swim?
Sometimes, at the upper pools, only where the water is safe on the day and your guide agrees.
When does it run?
We check conditions live and pause it in heavy rain, when the rock gets dangerous.
